Amawas Ka Chand Novel by Bushra Saeed

It was eleven o’clock at night. Rain was falling outside, and the streets of the city were almost empty. Zara was sitting alone in her room, looking at an old envelope on her table.

The envelope had been in her father’s old wooden box for many years. Her father had died three months earlier, but before his death, he had asked her to keep the box safe.

Tonight, Zara finally decided to open it.

There was a strange sentence written on the envelope:

“Open this letter only when you are ready to know the truth.”

Zara looked at the words for a long time.

She was afraid.

Her father had always been a quiet man. Whenever Zara asked about her mother, he gave the same answer.

“Your mother is gone. You should forget the past.”

Zara had accepted his answer for most of her life.

But now she wanted to know the truth.

She opened the envelope.

Inside was a short letter.

“Dear Zara,

If you are reading this, I am no longer with you. I have kept a secret from you for many years. I did it because I wanted to protect you.

There is an old house in the eastern part of the city. Go there. You will find a locked door. Open it with the key inside this envelope.

What you find there will answer all your questions.

I am sorry.

Dad.”

Zara looked inside the envelope again.

There was a small silver key.

Her heart began to beat faster.

The Old House

A Journey Into the Past

The next morning, Zara left her home early.

She carried the letter and the small key in her bag.

The old part of the city was far from the busy roads. It had narrow streets, old buildings, and small shops.

Zara remembered visiting this area when she was a child.

Her father had brought her here once.

At that time, she did not understand why.

Now she wondered if he had been trying to show her something.

After walking for almost thirty minutes, Zara found the house.

It stood behind a tall iron gate.

The house looked empty.

Its walls were covered with dust, and weeds had grown around the windows.

There was no name on the gate.

Only a strange symbol was carved into it.

It looked like a half moon with a small dot in the center.

Zara slowly opened the gate.

It made no sound.

She entered the garden.

In the middle of the garden stood a dead tree.

Under the tree was an old stone bench.

Zara felt a strange connection to the place.

She did not know why, but it felt familiar.

The Locked Door

Zara walked to the main door.

It was locked.

She took out the silver key.

Her hands were shaking.

She put the key into the lock.

Click.

The door opened.

Inside, everything was covered with dust.

There were old chairs, tables, books, and photographs.

Zara walked slowly through the hallway.

Then she saw something that made her stop.

A photograph was hanging on the wall.

It showed her father.

But he was standing beside a young woman.

Zara moved closer.

She looked at the woman.

Her heart stopped for a moment.

The woman looked like her.

The same eyes.

The same smile.

The same face shape.

Zara whispered:

“Mom?”

She had been told that her mother was dead.

But the photograph made her question everything.

Suddenly, she heard a noise upstairs.

Someone was there.

The Stranger Upstairs

An Unexpected Meeting

Zara slowly walked up the stairs.

The house was completely silent.

At the end of the hallway, she saw an open door.

Inside the room, an old man was sitting near a window.

He looked at Zara and smiled.

“You finally came,” he said.

Zara was surprised.

“You know me?”

The old man nodded.

“I have known you since before you were born.”

Zara stood near the door.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Adam.”

“Why did my father send me here?”

Adam looked at her sadly.

“Because he knew you would eventually need the truth.”

Zara sat down.

“I want to know everything.”

Adam took a deep breath.

“Then you must be ready to hear things that may hurt.”

“I am ready.”

Adam opened an old wooden box.

Inside were several photographs and papers.

He picked up one photograph.

It showed Zara’s father with the same woman Zara had seen downstairs.

“That woman was your mother,” Adam said.

Zara’s eyes filled with tears.

“You mean she was alive?”

Adam nodded.

“She was alive for many years after you were born.”

Zara could not speak.

“Why did my father tell me she was dead?”

Adam looked out of the window.

“Because he believed it was the only way to keep you safe.”

The Secret Behind Her Family

Why Did Her Father Hide the Truth?

Zara wiped her tears.

“Safe from whom?”

Adam placed several documents on the table.

“From powerful people who wanted to take control of this part of the city.”

Zara looked at the papers.

Adam explained that many years ago, some rich and powerful people had planned to destroy the old part of the city.

They wanted to buy the land at very low prices.

Then they planned to build expensive buildings there and make huge profits.

Zara’s father had discovered their plan.

He wanted to stop them.

But the people involved were powerful.

They had money, influence, and connections.

“They threatened your father,” Adam said.

“Your father continued collecting evidence against them. He knew that if they discovered everything he had collected, you could also become a target.”

Zara looked at the documents.

“So he hid everything here?”

“Yes.”

“And my mother?”

“Your mother helped him.”

Zara remembered the photograph.

She wanted to know more.

“Where is she now?”

Adam became quiet.

“She died three years ago.”

Zara looked down.

She had spent her whole life believing that her mother had died when she was a baby.

Now she knew that her mother had lived for many years.

She had been somewhere in the world.

Perhaps thinking about her.

Perhaps waiting to meet her.

The Hidden Evidence

Adam stood up and walked toward an old clock.

“Your mother left something here.”

“What?”

“The final evidence.”

He pointed at the clock.

Zara removed it from the wall.

Behind it was a small hidden space.

Inside was a black USB drive.

Zara looked at it carefully.

“What is on this?”

“The truth.”

Her Father’s Final Message

The Video

Zara returned home with the USB drive.

She connected it to her computer.

There were many files.

There were bank records, photographs, secret agreements, and videos.

She opened one of the videos.

Her father appeared on the screen.

Zara immediately began to cry.

He looked older than she remembered.

“Zara,” he said, “if you are watching this, then you have finally found the house.”

He paused.

“I know you will have many questions.”

Zara looked at the screen.

“I want you to know that I never wanted to hurt you. I wanted to protect you.”

Her father explained that he had kept her mother away because dangerous people were searching for the evidence.

He believed that if they knew about Zara’s mother, they might find Zara too.

“I know you may hate me for keeping the truth from you,” he said.

“But sometimes parents make painful choices because they believe those choices will protect their children.”

Zara wiped her tears.

Her father continued.

“The documents in this house can expose the people who planned to destroy the old city.”

He looked directly at the camera.

“But the decision is yours.”

“You can keep the truth hidden, or you can bring it into the light.”

The video ended.

Zara sat quietly for a long time.

Now she understood her father’s silence.

He had not hidden the truth because he did not love her.

He had hidden it because he was afraid of losing her.

Bringing the Truth Into the Light

Zara Makes a Choice

The next morning, Zara made a difficult decision.

She sent copies of the documents to several trusted journalists.

At first, nothing happened.

Then one newspaper published the story.

Within hours, the news spread across the city.

People were shocked.

The documents showed that several powerful people had planned to take the old city’s land.

They had secretly signed agreements and moved money through different accounts.

The police began an investigation.

Some people were arrested.

Others were questioned.

Most importantly, the plan to destroy the old city was stopped.

The old houses were saved.

The people living there were allowed to stay.

Zara had finally completed what her father had started.

But there was still one question in her heart.

She wanted to know more about her mother.

The Last Letter

A Message From the Past

A week later, Zara received another letter.

It had no return address.

Inside was a photograph of her mother.

On the back of the photograph was a short message:

“Your mother wanted you to know that she never stopped loving you.”

There was also an address.

Zara went to the place mentioned in the letter.

It was a small house near the river.

An old woman opened the door.

She looked at Zara and immediately began to cry.

“You are your mother’s daughter,” she said.

She gave Zara another box.

Inside were letters.

Dozens of letters.

They were all written by Zara’s mother.

Her mother had written them over the years.

She had written about Zara’s birthday.

She had written about the first day Zara went to school.

She had written about her dreams.

She had written about how much she missed her.

Zara read every letter.

She cried for hours.

For the first time, she understood that her mother had never forgotten her.

A New Beginning

Learning to Forgive

Several months passed.

Zara often thought about her father.

For a long time, she had been angry with him.

But now she understood him better.

He had made mistakes.

He had kept a terrible secret.

But he had also tried to protect her.

Zara realized that people are not always completely good or completely bad.

Sometimes people make difficult choices because they are afraid.

Sometimes they make mistakes because they do not know another way.

And sometimes love is hidden behind silence.

One evening, Zara returned to the old house.

She stood in front of the same locked door.

This time, she was not afraid.

She opened it.

The room was still dusty.

The old photographs were still on the walls.

But Zara no longer felt sadness.

She felt peace.

She looked at the photograph of her parents.

Then she smiled.

The door that had once hidden pain had finally given her the truth.

Conclusion

Zara spent years believing that the past was something she should forget.

But the past was not her enemy.

It was a part of her story.

The old house had taught her an important lesson: truth can hurt, but living without truth can hurt even more.

Her father had tried to protect her.

Her mother had loved her from a distance.

And Zara had found the courage to uncover a secret that had been hidden for many years.

The silent door was never just a door.

It was a symbol of fear, love, loss, and hope.

When Zara finally opened it, she discovered something important.

Sometimes, the door we are most afraid to open is the door that leads us to freedom.

And sometimes, the truth does not destroy our lives.

Sometimes, it helps us begin again.
